The Council of Europe wants the replacement of the current peacekeeping contingent from Transnistria with an international civil peacekeeping mission. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg has issued a document asking for the establishment of an international civil peacekeeping mission.

According to the document drafted on January 25, 2012, a total of 31 counterparts have signed it.

“We regret this tragic incident and are concerned about the possible tensions that may arise in the frozen conflict area. Recalling the Parliamentary Assembly Resolution 1572 (2007), paragraphs 13,14,15, we encourage all the participants of the 5+2 format negotiations to organize, as soon as possible, a new meeting, in order to examine the replacement of the current peacekeeping contingent with an international civil peacekeeping mission,” shows the document.

At the beginning of 2012, Vadim Pisari, an 18-year-old was fatally shot by a Russian peacekeeper. So far, the investigation has proved that “the Russian peacekeeper had no reason to open fire on the vehicle carrying two people,” according to the same paper.
