Communist, Democrat leaders say coalition talks advanced
After two and a half hours of talks, the leaders of the Party of Communists (PCRM) and the Democratic Party (PD) have announced that a centre-left coalition had not been created yet, but noted that the dialogue had considerably advanced. The sides discussed issues related to the government act. Moreover, Democrats' leader Marian Lupu said he would soon summon the PD Council in order to discuss the formation of a ruling coalition.
The meeting held at the Palace of the Republic on 27 December at 19:00 was attended by four negotiators from both sides. The PCRM was represented by its leader, Vladimir Voronin, Zinaida Greceanii, Igor Dodon and Vadim Misin. The PD was represented by Marian Lupu, Vlad Plahotniuc, Dumitru Diacov and Valeriu Lazar. Diacov and Lazar left one hour after the negotiations started, because of their busy agenda.
Communist leader Vladimir Voronin said that although the dialogue had advanced a lot and the sides discussed the distribution of state posts, there still were some issues to be tackled. He advocated the formation of a ruling coalition before the New Year, so that Moldovans enjoy peaceful holidays.
He added that in order to adopt a final decision it is necessary to summon the PCRM Central Committee and the PD Council.
Democrats' leader Marian Lupu said he had discussed with the PCRM negotiators the structure, the mechanisms and the framework of the future government. "The dialogue had advanced a lot, but there are issues to be discussed. During the next days we might summon the PD Council."
Lupu avoided saying whether the Democratic Party would form a centre-right or a centre-left coalition, but noted that anyway, the PD would lose something. He said he had discussed with the Communists the PD's proposal to amend the law on the government's activity. "We have discussed the opportunity to adopt all decision in the government with 2/3 of the votes."
Marian Lupu also said that the sides had discussed the depoliticization of the law-enforcement bodies, the judicial system, as well as the reformation of the Party of Communists.
Lupu said that on 28 December the PD would further negotiate with the PCRM, as well as with the Liberal Democratic Party and the Liberal Party.
