Chief of Moldova's General Staff resigns
Moldova's commander of the National Army and chief of the General Staff, Gen. Ion Coropcean, has tendered his resignation, sources in the Defence Ministry have told Infotag.
Under the legislation in effect, the resignation is to be examined by the government and then presented to the acting president and commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Mihai Ghimpu.
Ion Coropcean is 49 years old. He worked in the Armed Forces during the last 28 years. A participant in the Afghan war, Coropcean has been with Moldova's National Army since 1992. He has been the chief of the General Staff and deputy defence minister since 1998 and commander of the National Army since 2006.
