CEC to test electronic elector register during September 5 referendum

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will check the electronic register of electors during the September 5 Constitutional Referendum.

According to the CEC's press service, the testing will be made in 45 polling stations of the Chisinau central sector [city district], where 76 thousand electors will be voting.

Electors of the Centru [Center] sector included in electronic registers will be preliminary informed about the project and the electronic registration's new method, which is aimed to replace later paper elector registers. Electors will present their identity card to a operator in the polling station, and after a check he will receive the ballot.

Infotag's dossier: This is a 3 testing of the electronic elector register conducted under the United Nations Development Programme's support. Such pilot projects were successfully conducted during partial local elections in November 2009 and in May 2010, but never - for national elections.
