CEC: Moldova's parliamentary election may take place in August

The Moldovan Central Election Commission (CEC) is saying the parliamentary election may be held in mid-August. This time the election campaign will last only 45 days because this will be an early election. And at an ordinary election, campaigns last 60 days, as precisely was in the run-up to 5 April polls.

The time count will start on the day when corresponding presidential decree comes into effect upon publication in the Monitorul Oficial governmental paper.

The CEC has no idea how much the new election may cost because the Law on the 2009 State Budget provided means for only one election campaign, ‘so now we are supposed to request the Government to provide extra means’.

The 5 April, 2009 parliamentary elections cost 40 million lei to the State Budget.
