The printing of ballot-papers for the April 5 parliamentary elections will be accomplished later on Tuesday, the Central Election Commission reported.

The work has been under way since March 26 at the Central Printing House and at the Chisinau Polygraphy Association that have won such privilege at a corresponding contest organized by the CEC. The representatives of parties standing for parliament, accredited observers, journalists were given possibility to watch the processes of paper printing and packing.

The CEC reminded that even an attempted forging of ballot-papers is a serious crime punishable by law, so the Commission has undertaken necessary measures for a secure printing and distribution of the ballots. The CEC is calling upon all who knows about instances of swindling with ballot-papers or any other electoral law violations to report such facts to the Commission or the law enforcement.

The Commission has refuted the statement made recently by Moldova Noastra Alliance leader MP Serafim Urechean that, allegedly, a secret printing house has prepared 150 thousand fake ballot-papers to falsify the election returns on April 5.

Central Election Commission Secretary Iurie Ciocan said such statements were devoid of any logic or ground. The printing is going on under supervision of accredited observers, and “by the way, the MNA representative at the CEC did not state a wish to be present at the printing process, though he, as well as the spokespersons of any other political party, has the right for this”.

The voter registers for the 2009 parliamentary elections contain nearly 2.55 million names. At the previous polls of March 6, 2005 the main registers included 2.27 million voters and additional registers – 159 thousand names. The voter turnout then was 64.84%. The Communist Party won 45.98% ballots, the Moldova Noastra Alliance – 25.93%, the Christian Democratic Popular Party 9.07%, and all the rest runners failed to overcome the electoral barrier, even though it was only 4% then.
