A Canadian mother is facing a negligence charge after allegedly taking her infant daughter out in freezing weather without proper clothing, authorities say.

The 26-year-old Nova Scotia woman was charged by Bridgewater police after someone reported seeing her carrying the 9-month-old child outside about 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 when temperatures were about 16 degrees Fahrenheit. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday that officers found the baby unresponsive when they arrived.

The mother is to appear in Bridgewater provincial court Jan. 14. to face a count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, the network said.

The child was treated at a hospital for injuries to one hand and then released to her father's custody.
