Better a country with 4 “engines”

By Andrei Munteanu

The apparently tensed situation, which seems like expanding in the Republic of Moldova, it is for the first time when I can say honestly – it is a beneficial tension. It is an opportunity to believe that Moldova continues to enjoy the experiences of democracy, to learn and, most important – given that it is a country with specific traits – it is agreeable the fact that the best lessons we can learn are based on our own experiences.

I will not speak in terms of who is to be blamed or who is not to be blamed, who is to be blamed more or less, of certain discourses, anger, accusations, etc., hoping that nevertheless my message will be perceived correctly – I will just say: „Thanks for the lessons”. I wish and hope that the overwhelming majority of the Moldovan population be aware of the historical, un-doubtful importance, of the period we go through and of the fact that we learn a lesson with at least „4 variables”, of an extremely valuable equation – that of the AEI equation on development.

Certainly those „4 variables” have many subtleties, intricacies, question marks and not less challenges. However, it would be naïve to believe that the situation as it is in the R.M. could be approached simplistically. It would be ridiculous to believe that we, although are at the level of development as we are, could apply “ready-made” recipes, even if many examples from the West would be, undoubtedly, very applicable.

I hope very much in the wisdom of the Moldovan population to rejoice of the opportunities emerged in this historical period and get imbued with the consciousness that the pluralism is much more benefic and more valuable for development than outdated “behaviors” and tendencies to super-centralize the state power, which in essence is an insatiate “thirst” of dictatorship and abuse, of defying the common sense, in terms of elementary human rights.

I am ready to listen to and come to terms with such discourses which are heard among those 4 leaders of the AEI because, nevertheless, beyond that, there is, and we have to enjoy it – the quintessence of the way to freedom and towards learning lessons of immense value – (i) how to enjoy the freedom, (ii) how to live in freedom, and (iii) how to protect the freedom „against wind and rainy days…”.

It is a huge value to have grounds, our own and natural ones, to understand that now a country with „4 engines” has much bigger chances to manage than before, when we used to have only one „engine”, which far too often used to “spoil” and left us „dropped-off” in terms of: development, integration, attractiveness and long-term perspective. Those 4 „engines” have much more capacities to propel us upwards and up-keep us at due altitude.
