Basescu urges OSCE to back Moldova's democratic aspirations
Romanian President Traian Basescu called on the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, to support, by OSCE projects, Moldova's European and democratic aspirations, the presidential administration announced on Tuesday [6 October] in a release.
Basescu received Marc Perrin de Brichambaut on Tuesday, at the Cotroceni Palace, who is paying a 2-day visit to Romania.
"President Basescu has reiterated the country's stand as regards frozen conflicts , namely, finding negotiated solutions able to observe the integrity, sovereignty and independence of the states. He called on the OSCE Secretary General to support, through projects specific to this organization, Moldova's European and democratic principles," the release reads.
The two officials exchanged opinions over the political and security situation in the region, and the frozen conflicts in the Black Sea region - Dniester region, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorno-Karabah, and of the evolutions in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Marc Perrin de Brichambaut also attended the OSCE seminar on "The Impact of climate change over the European security," and held a conference on "Challenges in Wider Europe."
Marc Perrin de Brichambaut was appointed OSCE Secretary General on June 21st, 2005 and his initial mandate was extended by another three years, on June 21st, 2008.
