„Romania is impressed by the April 2009 events held in Chisinau, that opened the way to a democratic governing system for Republic of Moldova”, the Romanian President Traian Basescu stated on Wednesday evening, during his visit to the Chisinau City Hall.

As DECA-press informs, Basescu appreciated the optimism related the chance of Republic of Moldova to join European Union. The Romanian President also specified that the Government of Romania has got European funds, meant for the implementation of some joint projects with the Republic of Moldova. Hence, he expressed his regret about the fact in the last period of time, Chisinau authorities had not done anything to use these resources.

The mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca is sure Chisinau town will become the locomotive of Republic of Moldova’s European integration, as it was “ice-breaker in 2007”.

According to the press service of the municipal authorities, Chirtoaca offered Basescu a symbolic mandate assigning the Romanian President “to represent our country till Republic of Moldova’s final accession to European Union”. Mayor Chirtoaca also gave Traian Basescu the last book of Grigore Vieru’s poems and two CDs of the couple of dead singers Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici.
