Baltics Fight Back, Romanians Keep Silence
By Diana Ungureanu/ Chisinau / Moldova.ORG/ -- On November 17, 2011, Russia made a statement, according to which, the Baltic countries would be voluntarily joined to Soviet Union and the military actions it initiated would be defensive, not of employment. Also, in this release it is stressed that Bessarabia is an old Russian territory and the population that lives between Prut and Dniester is Russian ethnic.
On December 1 and 2, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Estonia responded to these statements in a way as possible more diplomatic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania sent a remark, expressing the regret for the Russia’s attitude to falsify the historical data. Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Urmas Paet, fought back through a personal statement.
As regards the administration of Moldova and Romania – there is deep silence. The fact that Bessarabia is declared Russian land seems that didn’t disturb anyone and the “liberation” of the territory between Prut and Dniester, as it was specified in the statement, of “antisocialist forces” is considered a pure historical truth.
In the moment of starting of the Second World War, in 1939, the fate of the Eastern Europe had been already of the Eastern Europe had already been ordered by the “Secret Additional Protocol” of non-aggression pact between the Soviet and German forces, in August 1939. Through this protocol, Germany and Soviet Union divided Europe after their desire.
On June 28, 1940, Romania received an ultimatum from the Soviet Union, which imposed the evacuation of Romanian civil administration and army from the territory between Prut and Dniester, known as Bessarabia, and the northern part of Bucovina. If the retire would not be made in the prescribed period of four days, Romania was menaced with war.
This truth is generally known.
But behold that in 2011, Russia declares that the military actions of the issue of the states were legally. Now we should ask the population of the “issued” states if they felt issued by the Soviets or it was a little differently.
The lesson of history invented and falsified by Russia is accepted in silence by Chisinau and Bucharest. What needs to understand Moscow from this behavior, is that it may be imposed easily on the territory between Prut and Dniester without receiving any riposte and all the actions that Russian Federation undertakes in this region are absolutely “moral and legal” from the politic point of view.
We are called Russians and it doesn’t hurt us. We continue to sleep, we do it well.
