Attitudinal reshufflements

By Andrei Munteanu

Chisinau (Moldova.ORG) – Incredible… but that’s what we have. The last opinion poll unveils that the Republic of Moldova seems to have a population still trusting mostly to Vladimir Voronin.

No matter which is the situation, we should also keep into account that nevertheless, a very significant share of the most progressive and ambitious citizens of the R.M. are abroad, willy-nilly, and they could not be comprised in the sample. Generally, in the situation of the R.M. we should be extremely cautious with regard to surveys, in terms of their interpretation. Let’s not forget of a good piece of advice – to think globally and act locally. Regardless of our stance, the R.M. got already in a process of globalization which, whether it will lead us to good results or vice versa, depends on us first of all. This kind of polls just can „pour water into the mill” of the communists and make them more convinced in the lies they disseminate so aggressively, but also can build grounds for them to think that in Moldova „everything is possible…”

Nevertheless, even if the communists might try to “rejoice” their „fame” accumulated in the social consciousness, most concerning is, including for communists themselves, that already the share of the respondents who „Trust nobody” surpassed that of the people who trust Vladimir Voronin, as „mostly trustworthy” person, thus accounting for respectively 30% and 21% of the respondents.

Thus, if among the communists from the R.M. there still people who think at least somewhat, and if they really are concerned about the future of the population from this territory, might quit their whims and cooperate; pay attention to the constructive ideas and initiatives that are submitted to approach beneficially the issue of jacking off the population from the state of apathy and deep disappointment. They should be aware, and admit, that the apathy has been cultivated mostly not only during a year or two, but during at least… 6 to 8 years.

We should be aware that those 30% of respondents who „don’t trust anybody” plus 14% of the undecided, make up a kind of „attitudinal explosive”, totally unpredictable; it makes up a serious food for thought of the entire political class in the same extent, that demagogies cannot serve anymore as „ fair wind” in anybody’s „sail”. The fact that people already prefer to trust nobody, rather than blindly in Voronin, as it used to be before, is also a sign that the change has been produced nevertheless in due direction, even though not of enough quality, as we would like. These “attitudinal reshufflements” can rock any political formation in the R.M. – communists including.

The last but not least argument, of the fact that things move onto the right way, is the virtually insignificant difference between the supporters of Vladimir Voronin and those of Vlad Filat – of only 7%, which is also a positive sign, although, it is still hard to understand, why these qualitative changes are much slower than expected.
