Another protest in Moldova: “Transnistria isn’t Chechen Republic!
Chisinau/ Moldova.ORG/ -- A new protest was organized yesterday, January 14 in front of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau. The event initially started on Facebook. More than 150 teenagers gathered from many districts of the Republic of Moldova. Many bystanders joined the event, as well.
The participants expressed their disagreement with the deployment of the Russian troops on the ground of Moldova, being also revolted by the behavior of the Russian ambassador to Moldova, Valeri Kurmin, who was previously made false allegations on the case of Vadim Pisari. They have chanted “We’re tired of the Russian weaponry!” “Transnistria is not Chechen Republic!” “Out from Moldova!” “Withdraw the army from Moldova!”
“Moldova has at least 15 bases of so-called peacekeepers. This army creates rather welter than peace. Moldova has made a lot of efforts in order to withdraw this army from its territory, but Russia infringes any international regulation,” said Ghenadie Brega, one of the organizers of the demonstration.
After their rally in front of the Russian embassy, the protesters headed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration demanding the expulsion of Valeri Kuzmin, the Russian ambassador to Moldova.
„I am 60 years old and I came from Criuleni to demonstrate today. Moldova doesn’t need these troops; they have stayed here for over two centuries, it’s time for them to leave,” said Vasile Busuioc.
Some teenagers said that they don’t feel free in their own country because of the foreign troops.
„We came from Tighina to protest. It is enough to be supervised by so many Russian peacekeepers, I can’t understand their mission on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, as long as there cannot be any dissension between the people living on the left and right bank of Nistru River,” said one of the protesters.
Transnistria is a breakaway region of Moldova which went apart after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Ever since, the Russian troops remain on the grounds of Moldova.
