Another protest demands the removal of the Transnistrian frontier
Chisinau / Moldova.org / -- The protests from Vadul lui Vodă continued today, January 11. Over 500 inhabitants of the villages around Nistru River demanded the removal of the peacekeeping stations from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Although yesterday, January 10, the Transnistrian administration installed the concrete blocks again, they were removed today.
"We are witnessing a true game; during the evening the concrete blocks are removed and on the next day they are reinstall by Tiraspol and so on,” said one of the protesters.
The participants at the protest said that they demand the full removal of the checkpoint, not just the concrete blocks surrounding them.
“The Moldovan citizens from the left bank of Nistru River have accepted all the challenges of the past 20 years; they struggled for the integrity of the Republic of Moldova. We have fought on Nistru River in order to avert a new administrative frontier to be installed and we will continue to fight. We don’t need armed people in the zone, we want to freely travel to Dubasari, Tiraspol, Grigoriopol, Tighina,” said Grigore Policinschi, the president of Dubasari district.
Some people have destroyed the signs near the checkpoint, but they were stopped by the police officers.
The protest bursted after an 18-year-old teenager was shot deadly by a Russian peacekeeper at the checkpoint in Vadul lui Voda on January 1, 2012. Ever since, several protests were organized in Vadul lui Voda, and others in front of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau and Bucharest. The Moldovans residing in France also organized a protest demanding the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the territory of Moldova.
