Angela Merkel’s spokesman makes public the Chancellor’s agenda in Moldova

Angela Merkel’s spokesperson Steffen Seibert has made public today the information about the Chancellor’s visit to Moldova of the 22nd of August. According to the press release submitted to Moldova.ORG, the visit takes place in the middle of the 20-years anniversary of the German-Moldovan diplomatic relations.

“Prime Minister Vlad Filat will welcome the Chancellor in Chisinau with military honors,” the press release shows.

Mr. Filat and Ms. Merkel will talk about “the bilateral relations, the current reform situation of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the development of the region.”

According to the same statement, another topic will be progresses achieved in the Transnistrian conflict resolution process. Transnistria is a breakaway region of Moldova which went apart after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Most of the inhabitants of the region speak Russian, but there are also towns where Romanian language is spoken. Transnistria is not recognized as an independent state.

The German administration also noticed that Ms. Merkel will have meetings with President Nicolae Timofti, the Speaker of the Parliament Marian Lupu, as well as talks with the leaders of the Parliamentarian parties.

She will also give a speech at the Palatul Republicii.

The German official will come to Moldova together with a group of businessmen who will examine the opportunities to establish partnerships with their Moldovan fellows and later invest into this market. Vlad Filat previously said the Chancellor will also meet with the German investors in Moldova to discuss about their achievements and their challenges.
