Angela Merkel promises assistance in solving the Transnistrian conflict
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised she will solicit Russia for help to resolve the Transnistria conflict. Meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat in Berlin, Angela Merkel stated confidence the Transnistria problem is soluble by applying a proper political will.
According to the Moldovan governmental press service, Merkel highly appreciated the onset of negotiations on the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, saying this is a moment very important for Moldova.
Premier Filat said that relations with Germany - one of the leading EU nations - present a particular interest for the Republic of Moldova.
In his words, Moldova counts considerably on Germany's backing in the RM-EU negotiations on visa regime liberalization and on a profound and all-embracing Agreement on creation of a free trade zone.
Concerning Moldovan Constitution amendment, the premier said that the decision to be achieved sooner or later must and shall be in line with democratic norms and Venice Commission recommendations.
